Me Before You
Our first read of Fall 2013 is from another author, Jojo Moyes, who is new to the Chicken Lit Bookclub. The book is called Me Before You
and was recommended to us via email from Book-A-Million. What exactly are we getting into here? Well, from first glance at hundreds of reviews out there on the internet and beyond, looks like we had better get our Kleenex boxes ready - this could be a real tear jerker.
... and if we like this one, The Girl You Left Behind
awaits our review. Bwah-haha!

Oh my goodness where to start?
ReplyDeleteI loved this book. Could not put it down, that is saying something. Sad, and realistic, and touching. Hits on a lot of aspects of the human condition. Life and death and love and loss, and growing up and not growing old. It tugged at my heart so hard that I really was rooting for her to get through to him, but it was telling the communities response to what she was doing. I think that his parents knew that he was not going to change his mind. I think when the lawyer came he was decided. But to go on the trip and to let her know he loved her, broke my heart. But that really is true love is it not? 5 stars from me.
Like you, Becca, I loved this book, too. So many things about the author's writing kept me glued from the start, and I found myself guessing how she would end it right up until the last chapter. While I wouldn't call this a "romance" novel, I would describe it as a love story involving complex moral issues. My heart just plain twisted - hard to hold back tears on this one!
