Catching Air

And now here's another must read Sarah Pekkanen book called Catching Air,the perfect lead-in to our summer reading.  This time we are not missing out on the release date, which just so happens to be Tuesday, May 6, 2014.  Got your pre-order on?

Here's a sneak peek describing what we are in for:
“... in Catching Air, Pekkanen turns an unflinching eye on the tangled relationships of two pairs of thirty-somethings.

A chance to run a B&B in snowy, remote Vermont—it’s an offer Kira Danner can’t resist after six soul-crushing years of working as a lawyer in Florida. As Kira and her husband, Peter, step into a brand new life, she quells her fears about living with the B&B’s co-owners: Peter’s sexy, irresponsible brother Rand, and Rand’s wife, Alyssa…who is essentially a stranger.

For her part, Alyssa sees taking over the B&B as the latest in a string of adventures. Plus, a quiet place might help her recover from the news that she can’t bear children. But the idyllic town proves to be anything but serene: Within weeks, the sisters-in-law are scrambling to prepare for their first big booking—a winter wedding—and soon a shy, mysterious woman comes to work for them. Dawn Zukoski is hiding something; that much is clear. But what the sisters-in-law don’t realize is that Dawn is also hiding  from someone…" from Sarah Pekkanen, The Books
So. Intriguing.

  1. It is funny how one turn in life can bring immense changes and growth in ones life.

Dawn, who falls for the boy that she thinks is the best thing to happen to her. Then steals 100k. And runs.

Then there is Alyssa and Rand. Rand whom was not there when his mother was ill and passing. Yes they were traveling. Where they traveling or were they running?

Then there is Kira and Peter.who moved to Florida for their careers. But when the first opportunity to run from their lives in Florida, they run to Vermont.

Are they running from something, or to something?

I think that all of the characters needed to run through something to learn what their lives were really going to be about.

Allysa and Rand learn that by being pregnant and adopting a child, the world really is bigger and able to be filled with the love of a child.

Peter had to learn how to forgive Rand and move forward as brothers.

Kira had to deal with the failings of her dad, and closing the chapters of her past.

Dawn had to get a backbone and do the right thing. Now she opens the doors to what comes next.

I loved the book, I give it 4 stars. I wish that they stories were wrapped up better.

  2. This is the review I posted to Shelfari and Goodreads:

"Absolutely loved this reading experience and will miss the well-rounded characters Sarah created now that I'm finished with the book. Bravo to a great read!"

... and you summed it all up so well, Becca. As for wishing the stories were wrapped up better, I'm missing the whole expanded family experience with Alyssa & Rand. Really wanted to know how that unfolded rather than a potential 'flash forward' experience by Alyssa. Same is true with Kira & Peter's future decision making for the B&B and family.

Will Sarah make another book from this one? If so, I would read it in a heartbeat.

    4 out of 5 stars
