Divergent Book Series

Somewhere in between starting and finishing our previous book selection, the Divergent Seriesby Veronica Roth snuck into our reading plans.  Hmmm... methinks this might have spurred us into action:

  1. Overall, I enjoyed getting "sucked into" the Divergent series and getting to know the characters as they traversed through post-modern society. I felt Veronica Roth did a decent job in creating this "new world" and wove complexities into the story that kept me guessing until the end. Yes, there was a surprising amount of violence; but no, I wouldn't have found the story believable if there was a lack thereof. My only disappointment was seeing the characters experience heart-wrenching loss at such a young age - but again, Roth kept it "real" by incorporating death into the story. If anything, she gives readers life-lessons in fiction form.

4 out of 5 stars to a strong debut by a new, up-and-coming author.
