The Brightest Star in the Sky

How about a Marian Keyes novel to follow up Sarah Pekkanen's amazing debut? Alrighty then. The Brightest Star in the Sky is next on our reading agenda, a book that promises to "burn bright with hope" according to one Amazon reader. And here is just a sample of what reviewers are saying about Keyes' latest release:
"There are so many pretenders to the Marian Keyes throne but, with this wonderful tenth novel, the author once again proves herself to be the reigning queen of British chick lit... Keyes' narrative zips along at a seemingly effortless pace with rounded, believable and engaging characters, fabulous plotting and spot-on dialogue. Marian Keyes: what a genius. Buy this book immediately, you won't be disappointed."
Daily Mail

"The Brightest Star in the Sky is chicken soup for weary souls in these recessionary times – chicken soup with added spice because, as well as being an endearingly hopeful read, it’s filled with the author’s trademark humour. As one of Lydia the cabbie’s annoying passengers would say, thank you kindly and merci bow-coup for the laughs, Marian."

  1. I really need to get back into reading!! I've missed so much. I think I'll do some back tracking...start with the Nanny Diaries.
I can never remember the name of the book or the author as I'm standing in the book store or at HellMart.
I'll try to be a better chickie.

  2. Nanny Diaries is a great choice for back tracking - I've been tempted to rent the DVD just to see the difference between the book/movie. It's been too long to remember! As for not remembering while you're in HellMart... I understand COMPLETELY. Ours is a total zoo.

Thanks for trying to be a better chickie. We miss you!

  5. I am listening to it now, definitely different in a gaellic type voice.

  6. @Becca - interesting, gaellic? I'm on pg 66 and trying to keep Maeve and Katie straight, but the narrator keeps flitting around between characters. Not sure how I'm going to like going backward in time chapter-wise when we already have so many flashbacks/forwards happening within each chapter. Marian Keyes is definitely keeping me on my toes here!

  7. Is this an angel or something going between the people? I love how it played with the dog!

  8. I think it's a ghost or lost spirit. Loved that dog scene, too! Looks like time isn't going backwards, but counting down?

  9. Time is going backwards but the story seems to be moving forward? Are you getting that feeling too?

  10. I'm on pg 74 (Day 59) and trying to piece it all together, but yes I am getting the feeling like time is going backwards/story going forward.

  15. Good to know, Becca. Thanks! I had to stop after Fionn and Grainne came into the picture - too much new information for my brain to handle tonight. But I will get back at it again tomorrow.

  18. I am so not going to spoil it for you, but the title of the book is a definite clue, I like how she did that and made us wait until the end to get to it!

  19. Day 29 here (pg 299). This is a PAGE TURNER! Now I'm starting to wonder about Fionn's gleamy eye-wink that everyone keeps witnessing.

  20. I am not telling what the eye wink is but you will learn more about him, that is for certain...no more from me..
