The Casual Vacancy
We just wouldn't be a legitimate book club if J.K. Rowling's first adult fiction novel The Casual Vacancy
were not first and foremost on our reading list. So there you have it - our next book. Critics are not all that impressed by Rowling's new release, but that is why we are here - to formulate our own opinions on it.

Just finished this book.
ReplyDeleteHuman nature is fickle. As it shows the frailties and frivolities of the species we call human. Very dark and sad. It did have moments where I thought that the people portrayed might see what was wrong and try to correct it. But it never came to pass. From first death to last death. A very sad read.
I wish I could give it a high rating. But I am so torn on this. Not her normal genre, and a very hyped book. I wish that story lines were easier to follow. Very choppy and disjointed.
After starting Rowling's novel and getting frustrated by the multitude of random characters whom I couldn't keep straight (and actually drawing a table for reference), I pressed on and finished. The overall story is just plain painful to read. Sadly, it imitates human nature and the state of politics everywhere. My thought is that Rowling is attempting to highlight the need to help underprivileged children by stepping away from society's divisiveness.
