The Cuckoo's Calling

Now for something COMPLETELY new: The Cuckoo's Callingby Robert Galbraith, aka J.K. Rowling who says this about her latest work:
I hoped to keep this secret a little longer, because being Robert Galbraith has been such a liberating experience! It has been wonderful to publish without hype or expectation and pure pleasure to get feedback from publishers and readers under a different name. The upside of being rumbled is that I can publicly thank my editor David Shelley, who has been a true partner in crime, all those people at Little, Brown who have been working so hard on The Cuckoo’s Calling without realizing that I wrote it, and the writers and reviewers, both in the newspapers and online, who have been so generous to the novel.  And to those who have asked for a sequel, Robert fully intends to keep writing the series, although he will probably continue to turn down personal appearances.
Did she say sequel? YES! *fist pump*

  1. Disappointed.

First to write under a pen name, why? Do you have so little faith in your writing that you felt the need to write under another name.

This book was a epic slog. It took more than 250 pages to really start fleshing out the story. And then when she fleshed it out, the writer just started spilling out details without really having to have worked for the information.

Sequel? Not sure I would spring for a sequel on this series. A long book that took far too long to get to the point. So many unanswered questions.

I wish that I had more to say about this book, but alas, I am glad I am done with it.

Two stars because I am feeling kind.

  2. Thank you for posting a review after slogging away on Rowling's 'epic slog'. You hit the nail right on the head about how long she took to start fleshing out the story - I bailed at pg. 166 (Part Three) after not being able to take any more of the evasive (fuzzy?) plot. With all of the great summer reads out there, I just couldn't justify slogging my way through it.

Sorry J.K. Rowling, but I'm not falling for your trickery with any future book releases. Thanks, but no thanks.
