Will you 'fly' through this book with us?"Weiner's trademark blend of wit and sensitivity distinguishes this timely tale about a family in crisis."
– Booklist
"Fly away home quickly moved its way up the list of my favorite novels by Weiner. She encompasses so many relationships and focuses on them throughout the book. It is skillfully written and will make you laugh as well as feel the emotions of each character. You will find yourself relating to each character in your own way and rooting for them to find comfort and happiness. Fly Away Home is a heartbreaking, insightful novel, full of humor and interpersonal relationships. It will easily become a novel you will not want to put down, a novel that will carry you through many emotions, a novel you simply wont want to end."

Fly Away Home
Last but not least for our summer reading pleasure is a Jennifer Weiner novel called Fly Away Home.
As with all of her books that we've read previously, Weiner's novel likely should be another page-turner:

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am in chapter 7..this is a complicated book, but I think going to be a great read.
Starting ch 6 here ("Lizzie") - lots of background information. I keep waiting for the action to begin!
ReplyDeleteChapter 10, seems like it is dragging..is it just me?
ReplyDeleteAfraid not... I was hoping you would say the opposite to keep me motivated.
ReplyDeleteI am going to stick with it, cause well, have to justify the purchase to hubs..next two books for me are on the Kindle for iPhone..
ReplyDeleteI'm with you - anxious to move on to 'The Cookbook Collector' and 'My Hollywood' ASAP.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me this gets better? Meanwhile, what do you think about 'Last Night at Chateau Marmont' by Lauren Weisberger? It releases August 17th and I've preordered. :)
ReplyDeleteDead tree or sony reader? I am in chapter 10. I am hoping that it does.
ReplyDeleteHardcover version via Amazon Prime. It sounds quite a bit more lively than this one, at least.
ReplyDeleteOkay will order it, Preordering the kindle for September. Like the idea of having Amazon books at my finger tips!
ReplyDeleteDoes this book disappoint?
From my point of view at 1/3 of the way through the book, it leaves a lot to be desired. Disappointing, yes.
ReplyDeleteOthers keep raving about this book. What are we missing? Are we missing anything? Still listening, hoping for better, not sure how much longer to give it..
ReplyDeleteI think it's mostly because of Jennifer Weiner's reputation, because you and I both can't be so blind - can we? We're not missing anything IMHO. Where are you now? LMK if you decide to bail- I might follow suit.
ReplyDeleteSylvie is starting to flesh out a little bit. Right now she is back in Conn. In chapter 11.
ReplyDeleteOMG get to chapter 13! Something just changed..let me know if you get that far.
ReplyDeleteThis book takes a really emotional turn in chapter 14..
ReplyDeleteok now that I'm done with my full day of client work... MUST CATCH UP! Thanks for clueing me in!
ReplyDeleteIt takes the end of part two and the beginning of part 3 for it all to start coming together. But Brenda there is a reason why Lizzie became an addict. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. That said after just finishing pg 198 - holy turn of events!
ReplyDeleteI am up to Thanksgiving. Really interesting..
ReplyDeleteNot to pressure you, but I just finished this..not going to say another word until you are finished. :-)
ReplyDeleteStarting part 3 here - and thank you for not saying anything yet. Might finish tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteFinished reading the book this morning and have to say I'm just plain disappointed. Yes, there were a couple of interesting moments but that wasn't enough to make up for the slow moving storyline. I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars. (Sorry Jennifer Weiner!)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I hate that it took so far into the book for the story to pick up. I have no idea why I stuck with it, but I did. I don't think that any of the characters were fleshed out well, and all the gray and glum was wearing. And how did it end between Diana and Gary, and did it work out between Lizzie and Jeff? And why oh why would Sylvie go back to that man after what he did, I will not understand that, and there were not any really explanations to the story, it seemed really, what is the word that I am looking for, disjointed? Scattered? There wasn't a chance given to the man from the grocer or the impact on the son when mom left dad.
ReplyDeleteBest character: Grandma!
I am giving this a 3 star and hope that her next book is better.
Did you read the 'Acknowledgements' at the end by Jennifer Weiner? The book actually got its start 10 years ago when she was a "lowly newspaper reporter with a manuscript and a dream" which might explain why this book isn't the usual Jennifer Weiner-style.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, I too loved Grandma. She reminded me of my own Mother. Not afraid to speak her mind, that's for sure.
I'm hopeful that our next book is nothing like this one!
Finished it...will not spoil it for you...please let me know when you do..we can discuss this awesome book!
ReplyDelete4.5 stars!
