A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty
Finally, after that 500+ page Deborah Harkness event, we're ready to move on to the next book on our reading list. A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty
by Joshilyn Jackson is our latest choice and is described by Booklist (Starred Review) as "...a mesmerizing tale ...This is Jackson's most absorbing book yet, a lush, rich read with three very different but equally compelling characters at its core."
Sounds like perfectly peachy read.

The Book of Life
Where'd we go? Oops - big apologies about that reading lapse, but life took over here for a bit. Speaking of life, our current bookclub selection is by a favorite writer to our club who goes by the name of Deborah Harkness. Yes, we've read the first two books in her All Souls Trilogy and now must read the final installment, The Book of Life.
And guess what? This book promises all kinds of "mystery, suspense, and romance" along with new "crises and enemies" to make things interesting.
... because we're due for a good vampire/witch read.

Someday, Someday, Maybe
Heads up to Lauren Graham's debut novel called Someday, Someday, Maybe,
another book to add to our summer reading schedule. So basically, if you're already into the Jojo Moyes book and can't put it down, carry on as usual. But if you need a diversion, pick up Someday, Someday, Maybe and join in with us. Or read both simultaneously. Nothing wrong with that!
As you were, readers.

The Vacationers
Now we have a book by an author who is new to our bookclub, as we hope to land our next unputdownable summer novel. Emma Straub's latest book release is called The Vacationers,
and with MashableReads social book club claiming it to be 'your ultimate summer read', we can't have gone too wrong in our selection. Right? Let's see about that.
These sparkly reviews should capture your interest in the novel, too:
These sparkly reviews should capture your interest in the novel, too:
“Delicious . . . richly riveting . . . The Vacationers offers all the delights of a fluffy, read-it-with-sunglasses-on-the-beach read, made substantial by the exceptional wit, insight, intelligence and talents of its author.”
— People (four stars)
“The Vacationers is a beautifully told story that walks the tightrope of family angst and connection with hilarity and truth. Get ready for the Post family drama, where the near empty nest collides with the dreams of the new generation. Emma Straub's writing is deft, clear and wise in ways that will surprise and delight you. It's a beyond the beach read. It's Ms. Straub at her dazzling best.”This book already sounds crazy-good.

All Fall Down
Up next is Jennifer Weiner's novel called All Fall Down.
And yes, this book is another that I got sucked into while on vacation and couldn't find time to post this bookclub update until arriving home. Now halfway through the novel, here is the update I promised.
What others are saying:
What others are saying:
“Weiner, who is a master at creating realistic characters, is at her best here, handling a delicate situation with witty dialogue and true-to-life scenes. Readers will be nodding their heads in sympathy as Allison struggles to balance being a mother, a daughter, and a wife while desperately just wanting to be herself. Weiner is one of the reigning queens of contemporary women’s fiction, and her latest is sure to hit the best-seller lists. The ‘hot-topic’ quality of the story line will only boost readership even further.”
— Booklist, starred review
“Weiner paints a multidimensional character with real-life trials and tribulations so you can’t help but sympathize. While the plot is a departure from Weiner’s usual fare, you’ll still have some laughs as you follow the heroine’s attempt to salvage her happy ending.”Must. Read. On.

that we found hidden in our much coveted stash of books. So many books, so little time, right?
Take a look at some comments by other readers who have already read this novel:
We could get so lost in this book.

Catching Air
And now here's another must read Sarah Pekkanen book called Catching Air,
the perfect lead-in to our summer reading. This time we are not missing out on the release date, which just so happens to be Tuesday, May 6, 2014. Got your pre-order on?
Here's a sneak peek describing what we are in for:
Here's a sneak peek describing what we are in for:
“... in Catching Air, Pekkanen turns an unflinching eye on the tangled relationships of two pairs of thirty-somethings.So. Intriguing.
A chance to run a B&B in snowy, remote Vermont—it’s an offer Kira Danner can’t resist after six soul-crushing years of working as a lawyer in Florida. As Kira and her husband, Peter, step into a brand new life, she quells her fears about living with the B&B’s co-owners: Peter’s sexy, irresponsible brother Rand, and Rand’s wife, Alyssa…who is essentially a stranger.
For her part, Alyssa sees taking over the B&B as the latest in a string of adventures. Plus, a quiet place might help her recover from the news that she can’t bear children. But the idyllic town proves to be anything but serene: Within weeks, the sisters-in-law are scrambling to prepare for their first big booking—a winter wedding—and soon a shy, mysterious woman comes to work for them. Dawn Zukoski is hiding something; that much is clear. But what the sisters-in-law don’t realize is that Dawn is also hiding from someone…" from Sarah Pekkanen, The Books

Someone Else's Love Story
Our next book was released on November 19, 2013 and has been calling our names ever since. Someone Else's Love Story
is by Joshilyn Jackson, an author whose work we've gushed over in the past and hope to once again. How can we go wrong, right? I mean, check out this review:
“Jackson’s novel perfectly captures the flavor and rhythm of Southern life as a young woman preparing for college finds herself caught up in a real-life drama… Jackson draws on her own Southern roots to paint this pitch-perfect portrait of a girl from a small town in Georgia…Wrapped in thoughtful, often funny and insightful narrative…Jackson presents the reader with a story that is never predictable and is awash in bittersweet love, regret and the promise of what could be. A surprising novel, both graceful and tender. You won’t be able to put it down.”Read on.

The Fault in Our Stars
Ok so we've seen the cover of our next read everywhere and heard murmurs that everyone is reading it. The book was written by John Green, a new author to our bookclub (who appears a little nutty by the looks of his online presence) and the book is called The Fault in Our Stars.
... and we don't need to read what others are saying before getting started. Let's just GO.
