The Book of Life

Where'd we go?  Oops - big apologies about that reading lapse, but life took over here for a bit.  Speaking of life, our current bookclub selection is by a favorite writer to our club who goes by the name of Deborah Harkness.  Yes, we've read the first two books in her All Souls Trilogy and now must read the final installment, The Book of Life. And guess what?  This book promises all kinds of  "mystery, suspense, and romance" along with new "crises and enemies" to make things interesting.

... because we're due for a good vampire/witch read.

  1. Just finishing ch 22 here... taking so long to get through. Good, though!

  2. I was hoping for more substance in reading this final(?) All Souls Trilogy installment. Instead, my brain went through a full spectrum of emotions such as: boredom, confusion, disgust, shock, horror, disappointment, regret, and more. After reaching page 561 and feeling like the book could have been wrapped up in a shorter 300 page version, I'm wishing I would've just read the last chapter and been done with it all much sooner. Now if Harkness would give us a little more Gallowglass, I'd be willing to forgive her for that disappointing experience.

2 out of 5 extremely generous stars.

  3. Exactly. I was really expecting sparkle and shine. This book was far, far, too long. We could have used more Gallowglass and Fernando. Now that could have fleshed out the story more. 2 stars is all I can do on this book.
